The KBWS PWM
(pulse width modulated)controls
are designed to operate PWM and SCR rated Permanent Magnet motors
ranging from 1/50 HP to 1 1/2 HP.They operate at a switching frequency
greater than 16 kHz to provide high motor efficiency and quiet
operation.Another advantage of PWM is higher output voltage (up to 130
Volts DC for 115 Volt AC line and 220 Volts DC for 208/230 Volt AC
line)which provides increased motor speed.
The KBWS contains pulse-by-pulse current sensing,which provides short circuit protection and prevents control damage due to commutator arcing.Permanent magnet motor demagnetization is completely eliminated because current peaks are reduced to safe levels.The controls contain an AC line inrush current limiter (ICL)which reduces the AC line surge current during startup. Standard features of the KBWS include diagnostic LEDs (Power On and Current Limit)and adjustable trimpots (Maximum Speed,Minimum Speed,Acceleration,Deceleration, Current Limit and IR Compensation).Also provided is a connector for an Inhibit Switch and quick-connect terminals for AC line,motor armature and Main Speed Potentiometer.The Plug-In Horsepower Resistor ®matches the motor characteristics to the control which eliminates the need to recalibrate the Current Limit (CL)and IR Compensation (IR)trimpots. The KBWS contains built-in isolation for all inputs.This includes signal voltage,Main Speed Potentiometer,Inhibit Circuit and +5VDC Power Supply.The dual voltage models contain a jumper to select motor voltage and special circuitry which automatically accepts AC line input voltages of 115 or 208/230 Volts AC without having to make a jumper selection. Optional accessories for the KBWS include a DIN Rail Mounting Kit,a Product Safety Module (PSM)and an AC Line / Armature Fuse Kit. KBRC-240D Full Wave 4 Quadrant Regenerative Drive The KBRC-240D is a Full-Wave Regenerative Drive in a NEMA-4X / IP-65 washdown and watertight enclosure.It is designed to operate 90 and 180 Volt Permanent Magnet and Shunt Wound DC motors in a bidirectional mode.It provides 4-quadrant operation,which allows forward and reverse torque in both speed directions.This allows the control to maintain constant speed with overhauling loads and provides rapid instant reversing and controlled braking.Because of its excellent performance,the control can replace servo drives in many applications. The KBRC-240D has a Regeneration Overspeed Protection Circuit, which prevents failure of the power bridge in extreme overhauling conditions.Motor overload protection (I x t)will shut down control if the motor is overloaded for a predetermined amount of time.The exclusive Auto-Inhibit ®circuit allows safe,smooth starting during rapid cycling of the AC line. Due to its user-friendly design,the KBRC-240D is easy to install and operate.Tailoring to specific applications is accomplished via selectable jumpers and trimpot adjustments.However,for most applications,no adjustments are necessary. The KBRC-240D can be operated from a two or three wire start/stop circuit or can be started from the AC line.A set of dedicated normally open or normally closed relay contacts are provided,which are activated via the start/stop circuit.They can be used to turn on or off equipment or to signal a warning if the control is put into Stop Mode or times out in TCL. Main features of the KBRC-240D include Speed or Torque control modes.In Linear Torque mode (S/L),speed and torque vary linearly as a function of main speed potentiometer rotation or input signal.In Non-Linear Torque mode (NL),the torque is varied by the main speed potentiometer or input signal,and remains constant throughout the motor 's entire speed range.In addition,Regenerate-to-Stop (RTS)or Coast-to-Stop (CTS)stopping modes are also provided. Standard front panel features of the KBRC-240D include diagnostic LEDs (for Power On,Stop and Overload),a Start/Stop Switch and a Main Speed Potentiometer.Other features include Barrier Terminal Blocks (facilitates wiring of the AC line,motor,tach-generator and run relay),adjustable trimpots (OFFSET, RACC, FACC, MAX, FWDCL, REVCL, IR, RESP, DB and TCL),selectable jumpers (AC line voltage,motor voltage or tach feedback,motor current,analog input voltage,control mode,torque mode,current limit mode,regeneration mode,run relay and enable)and LEDs (Power On,Overload,Forward Enable and Reverse Enable). Optional accessories for the KBRC-240D include a Forward-Stop-Reverse Switch,a Power On/Off Switch,a Signal Isolator and an Auto/Manual Switch.Quick-connect terminals are provided for easy installation of all accessories. KBAC-24D Adjustable Frequency Drive The KBAC-24D Adjustable Frequency Drive is a variable speed control in a NEMA-4X /IP-65 washdown and watertight enclosure.It is designed to operate 208-230 Volt 3-phase AC induction motors through 3.6 Amps RMS.The sine wave coded Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) output operates at a frequency of 16kHz which provides high motor torque,high efficiency and low noise. Due to its user friendly design,the KBAC-24D is easy to install and operate.Tailoring to specific applications is accomplished via selectable jumpers and trimpot adjustments,which eliminate the computer-like programming required on other drives.However,for most applications no adjustments are necessary. Main features include adjustable RMS Current Limit with I2t Motor Overload Protection.In addition,adjustable Slip Compensation provides excellent load regulation over a wide speed range.Power Start ™ delivers over 200%motor torque to ensure startup of high frictional loads.Electronic Inrush Current Limit (EICL ™)eliminates harmful AC line inrush current and adjustable Linear Acceleration and Deceleration make the drive suitable for soft-start applications.The Ride Through feature provides a smooth recovery to the previous set speed during a momentary power loss and Regeneration Protection eliminates tripping due to rapid deceleration of high inertial loads. Standard front panel features include diagnostic LEDs for Power On and Control Status,a Start/Stop Switch and a Main Speed Potentiometer.Other features include a Barrier Terminal Block to facilitate wiring of the AC line and motor,adjustable trimpots (MAX, MIN, ACCEL, DECEL, COMP, CL, BOOST) and customer selectable jumpers (line voltage,motor horsepower,auto or manual restart modes, motor frequency,frequency multiplier,fixed or adjustable boost). Optional accessories include a Forward-Stop-Reverse Switch, Auto/Manual Switch,Power On/Off Switch,Signal Isolator /Run Relay and a Multi Speed Board.Quick-connect terminals are provided for easy installation of all accessories. KBPW-240D PWM DC Motor Speed Control The KBPW-240D is a PWM (pulse width modulated)control in a NEMA-4X /IP-65 washdown and watertight enclosure designed to operate Permanent Magnet and Shunt Wound motors through 7.5 Amps DC.The efficient PWM waveform,operating at a switching frequency greater than 16kHz,provides almost pure DC to the motor (form factor 1.05).This provides high motor efficiency,whisper quiet operation along with less motor heating.This allows for a smaller,less costly motor to be used in most applications.Another advantage of PWM is higher output voltage (up to 130 VDC for 115 VAC lines and 220 VDC for 230 VAC lines)which provides increased motor speed. The KBPW-240D contains pulse-by-pulse current sensing,which provides short circuit protection and prevents control damage due to commutator arcing.Permanent magnet motor demagnetization is virtually eliminated because current peaks are reduced to safe levels.In addition,the main power transistor is mounted to a heat spreader,providing enhanced heat dissipation.This eliminates over temperature cycles that cause premature transistor failure. A unique feature of the KBPW-240D is its active bridge,which substantially reduces the AC line surge current during cycling of the AC line.This allows the control to be turned on and off rapidly without damage to critical components.The active bridge is coupled with a failsafe circuit that will shut down the control if the main power transistor shorts,preventing a dangerous high-speed runaway condition. Motor burnout is prevented with the Timed Current Limit circuit (TCL) by shutting down the control when an overload condition exists for a predetermined amount of time.A special AC line input circuit automatically adjusts the control for 115 or 230 VAC. Standard front panel features include diagnostic LEDs (for power on,stop,and overload),Start/Stop switch,and Speed potentiometer. Other features include barrier terminal blocks to facilitate wiring, adjustable trimpots (accel,decel,max speed,min speed,current limit, timed CL,IR comp,and jog speed),customer selectable jumpers (motor voltage,motor current,timed current limit,and tach voltage), and an output run relay. Optional accessories include Fwd-Brk-Rev Switch,On/Off AC Line Switch,Run-Stop-Jog Switch,Signal Isolator,and an Anti-plug Reversing Module.Quick-connect terminals are provided for easy installation of all accessories. KBMG-212D Regenerative The KBMG® is an ultracompact, full-wave regenerative drive capable of operating DC PM or Shunt motors in a bidirectional mode. Its 4-quadrant operation provides forward and reverse torque in both speed directions which allows the control to maintain constant speed with overhauling loads, provides rapid reversing and controlled braking. Because of its excellent controllability and response time, the KBMG can replace servos in many applications. The control is factory set for armature feedback, which provides up to 1% load regulation over a motor base speed of 50:1. Tach-generator feedback is also provided for superior load regulation if required. A simple jumper setting converts the KBMG to a torque control. In this mode, motor torque rather than motor speed is controlled. KBVF Chassis The KBVF® Adjustable Frequency Drive is designed to provide variable speed control of standard three-phase AC induction motors through 1 HP. Adjustable linear acceleration and deceleration are provided, making the drive suitable for soft start applications. The output voltage is sinewave coded PWM operating at 16 kHz, which provides high motor torque, high efficiency and low noise. The KBVF is a full featured drive, and due to its user friendly design, it is easy to install and operate. Simple trimpot adjustments eliminate the computer-like programming required on other drives; however, for most applications no adjustments are necessary. KBIC Industry Standard The KBIC® controls PM, Shunt and AC/DC motors over a range of 1/100-3 HP with only a few models. All models can be used on a wide range of motor horsepower by inserting the proper Plug-in Horsepower Resistor®. Speed range is 50:1 with load regulation of 1%. Features include Auto Inhibit®, Voltage Following, MOV transient protection, 5K speed pot and trimpot adjustments for Min, Max, Accel, IR and CL. Options include Auxiliary Heatsink, AC Line and Armature Fuse Kit, Barrier Terminal Options and SI-5 Signal Isolator. Dimensions: 3.63” x 4.30” x 1.25”. Patented. KBMM The Ultimate The KBMM™ full-wave DC motor control is the ultimate in reliability and performance. Contains Direct-Fed™ current limit that helps protect the SCR power bridge against direct shorts and prevents demagnetization of PM motors. 25A SCR’s and line and armature fusing further enhance reliability. KB’s exclusive Plug-in Horsepower Resistor® eliminates the need for recalibration when used over a wide range of motor horsepower. Standard features include trimpots for Min, Max, IR, CL and Linear Accel and Decel armature or tach feedback. Auto Inhibit, MOV transient protection, 5K pot and Noise Rejection Circuitry. Options: Auxiliary Heatsink, Barrier Terminal Options, and SI-6 Signal Isolator. Dimensions: 3.63” x 4.30” x 1.25” . Patented. KBCC Chassis The KBCC™ chassis controls utilize the KBMM™ modular control to provide a low-cost, reliable SCR drive. They include all the features of the KBMM™ including the Auxiliary Heatsink and Barrier Terminal Block with AC line and armature fuses. The controls are ruggedly constructed and contain a remote 5K speed pot. Dimensions: 7.00” x 6.25” x 3.00”. Patented. KBCC "R" Chassis Reversing The KBCC™ “R”-suffix chassis control is designed to provide anti-plug “instant” reversing, solid state dynamic braking and rapid cycling. It combines all of the features of the KBCC™ control with the features of the KB APRM®. The APRM® eliminates contact arcing by allowing armature switching to take place only when current levels are near zero. Specific functions that can be performed by the KBCC™-R are Run-Brake, Forward-Brake-Reverse, Run-Stop and Forward-Reverse (instant reverse). Dimensions: 9.00” x 6.25” x 4.50”. Patented. KBCC-240D Chassis Dual Voltage This updated chassis control utilizes state-of-the art circuitry. It provides motor burnout protection with I x t current limit, trip times and short circuit protection. A jumper selection used to preset motor current eliminates the need to calibrate IR Comp and CL. Other features include armature fusing, electronic start/stop, LED array for power on, stop, antidemagnetization and current limit. Jumpers are also used to select AC line input, DC motor output, speed or torque control, and armature or tach feedback. Dimensions: 7.00" x 6.25" x 3.00". KBCC-255 (5 Hp) Chassis The KBCC-255 drive is designed to control 5 Hp DC Shunt and PM motors. It is built on a rugged aluminum chassis and uses the KBMM™ modular control, which contains Direct-Fed™ CL circuitry, for excellent performance and reliability. The unit contains a 42 Amp power bridge and armature and control fusing, which enhance reliability. An exclusive feature, found only in KB drives, is Auto Inhibit®, which provides a smooth, safe start during rapid switching of the AC line. Standard features include: armature or tach feedback, and trimpots for Min, Max, IR Comp, CL and Linear Accel and Decel. A 5K speed potentiometer is included. Dimensions: 10.00” x 6.25” x 4.00”. Patented. KBPB Compact Cycler Reversing The KBPB™ is a compact version of the KBCC™ “R”-suffix control. The APRM® is mounted directly to the rear of the KBMM™ speed control. A built-in Barrier Terminal Block and its small size make the control ideal for installation where space is at a premium. The KBPB™ is equipped with a built-in dynamic brake resistor, Accel/Decel trimpots and provision for AC line and armature fusing. This control provides functions identical to that of the KBCC™-R. A 5K ohm remote potentiometer is included. Dimensions: 4.25” x 4.38” x 4.90”. Patented. KBRG-212D Regenerative Compact The KBRG-212D is a compact version of the KBRG-240D. It is a full-wave 4-quadrant drive with updated performance characteristics. The control is rated through 3/4 Hp at 90 VDC and 1-1/2 Hp at 180 VDC. The drive contains a selectable jumper for motor current that eliminates the need to calibrate IR Comp and CL. The KBRG-240D also provides jumper selections for AC input voltage (115/230 VAC) and armature voltage (90/180 VDC). The control can also operate 90-130 VDC motors with a 230 VAC input. High speed CL prevents demagnetization of PM motors. Dimensions: 4.76" x 8.37" x 1.70.” KBRG Regenerative The KBRG™ is a full-wave regenerative control, capable of operating a DC motor (Permanent Magnet or Shunt) in a bidirectional mode. It provides 4-quadrant operation which allows forward and reverse torque in both speed directions. The KBRG™ contains many standard features, such as: armature and tach feedback, built-in horsepower selection, trimpots for Fwd CL, Rev CL, IR Comp, Response, Max Spd, Offset, Deadband, Fwd Accel, Rev Accel and Timed Current Limit. LED indicators for: Power On, Current Limit, Fwd Enable and Rev Enable. A 5K speed pot is included. Dimensions of the KBRG™: 7.7” x 10.0” x 2.5” (Mod. KBRG™-240D), x 3.35” (Mod. KBRG™-225D). KBRG-225DE Regenerative NEMA-1 The KBRG-225D is a NEMA-1 full-wave regenerative drive capable of operating DC PM or Shunt Motors in a bidirectional mode. Its 4-quadrant operation provides forward and reverse torque in both speed directions. This allows the control to maintain constant speed with overhauling loads and provides rapid instant reversing and controlled braking. The control is supplied with an operator panel. It contains a variety of features, including (%) Speed Meter, Start/Stop, Run/Jog, Forward/Reverse and Main Speed Potentiometer. Front panel adjustments of (%) Speed and Jog Speed are also provided. The operator panel can be replaced with a blank panel. See your distributor for details. All of the features of the KBRG-225D have been retained. 7.7” x 10.0” x 4.1”. KBRG-255 Regenerative - 5 Hp The KBRG-255 is designed specifically to control 5 Hp shunt wound and PM DC motors. It is similar to the KBRG-225D (3 Hp); however, the SCR ratings and heatsink size have been enhanced. All of the features of the KBRG-225D have been retained* except that the current jumper selection and built-in armature fusing have been eliminated. A new P-C power board incorporates 35 amp SCR’s and a rugged 45 amp barrier terminal block. Dimensions: 12" L x 7.7" W x 3.4" H. * In the KBRG-255 KBWD-13,16 The KBWD-13, 16 models provide a low cost alternative for pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control applications. Their compact size allows for direct replacement of other types. Standard features include instantaneous short circuit protection, under voltage protection and KB’s Plug-in Horsepower Resistor®, which eliminates the need to calibrate IR Comp and CL. A potentiometer (5k), isolated analog signal (0-5VDC) or PWM microprocessor output can be used as an input signal. Dimensions: 3.63" x 4.30" x 2.51". KBWD-15 Pulse Width Modulated The KBWD-15 Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) DC motor speed control rated 5.0ADC-120VAC provides excellent dynamic response to load variations. The control significantly lowers audible motor noise and provides longer brush life. It also produces less motor heating which allows a smaller, less costly motor to be used for most applications. Another advantage of PWM is higher output voltage which provides increased output speed. The KBWD-15 contains (I x t) overload and short circuit protection. Diagnostic LED for “power on” and “overload” indication are also provided. KBWT Pulse Width Modulated High Current The KBWT series pulse width modulated (PWM) controls, rated through 12 amps DC, are designed for high current applications. Several models are offered, which provide the user a choice of input voltage and output current. An important feature of this control is its active bridge circuitry, which limits inrush current during AC line startup and prevents control runaway due to a shorted output transistor. The KBWT also contains (I x t) motor overload protection and instantaneous short circuit protection. Dimensions: See data sheet. KBWM NEMA-1 Compact The KBWM control is a compact version of our Multi Drive™ (KBMD). The control is packaged in an all metal NEMA-1 enclosure. This unidirectional SCR drive utilizes the KBMM speed control module, which prevents motor failure due to demagnetization, and contains AC line and armature fusing and a barrier terminal connection block. The KB Plug-in Horsepower Resistor® automatically calibrates IR Comp and CL. Dimensions: 5.25" H x 3.70" W x 2.9" D. KBMD-240D NEMA-1 The Model KBMD-240D, also called Multi-Drive™, is a packaged SCR drive in a NEMA-1 enclosure. It utilizes the KBMM™ speed control for its electronics. The Multi-Drive™ is rugged and compact in size. It handles both 115 and 230VAC line inputs by setting the built-in Dual Voltage Switch. In addition, the single model can be used on a wide range of motor horsepower by inserting the appropriate Plug-in Horsepower Resistor®. The Auxiliary Heatsink (optional) increases the rating of the basic unit. An optional Forward-Brake-Reverse Switch Kit is also available. Dimensions: 5.06” x 5.35” x 7.13”. KBPC-240D KBPC-225 NEMA-4X The KBPC Series NEMA-4X (IP-65) SCR DC Motor Speed and Torque Control is designed for applications requiring washdown watertight integrity. Its housing is ruggedly constructed of die cast aluminum which is protected with an acrylic coating. Exclusive Short Circuit and Timed Current Limit (TCL) circuitry prevents motor burnout and demagnetization of PM motors. Features such as Selectable Current Range eliminate unnecessary calibration of IR and current limit trimpots. Other selectable features are: Input voltage 115/230VAC, Output voltage 90/180VDC, Current range 2.5/5.0/7.5/10.0 amps, Input signal 0-5/0-20VDC, Armature or tach feedback, Tach voltages 7/25/50V/1000 rpm. Adjustments include: Min, Max, Accel, Decel, IR, CL and TCL. Standard features include: Armature Fusing, Electronic Start-Stop and LED Indicator Array for “Power On,” “Stop” and “Overload.” The KBPC-225 contains all of the features of the KBPC-240D except Armature Fusing. In addition, it is designed specifically for 3Hp - 180 VDC PM or shunt motors operating from a 230VAC line. |
